Instructional designer with impeccable writing skills
and superb attention to detail

I find the world of instructional design hugely exciting as it is always innovating. In particular, I have a fascination with behavioural science when it comes to learning, accessibility when it comes to course development and exploring emerging solutions in the AI space.

Examples of my work

About me

I started my career in publishing at Penguin Random House, where I honed my passion for writing, editing and proofreading.

After making the pivot to instructional design, I haven’t looked back - I love all aspects of creating courses, whether online or for the classroom. I pride myself on creating learning solutions that close learning gaps and result in performance and behaviour changes.

I have a particular passion for accessibility and believe attention to detail is paramount in this role.

Technical Skills

Articulate Storyline and Rise, Canva, Vyond, Powerpoint, Audacity, Cornerstone.

AI tools include ChatGPT, Copilot, Notebook LM (LLMs) Fathom (for summaries), Adobe Firefly and Sora (image generation).

How I work

Determining the problem

I start by understanding the problem you wish to solve. That means conducting a needs analysis, which identifies performance gaps as well as desired outcomes, ensuring that training is truly the right solution.

Designing the solution

Once the goals are clear, I map out the learning experience. This includes determining learning objectives, planning the structure of the course and storyboarding - bearing in mind at all times that the aim is to keep the learner engaged and reduce cognitive load.

Developing the training

Although writing is my superpower, I can also build out the course or materials, ensuring everything works together to support the learning goals. I can create e-learning courses or classroom presentations, depending on which works best.

Testimonials

  • "Claire has always been a pleasure to work with. She is always eager to learn and develop herself further and has developed her skills to an impressive standard in a short space of time. She has an excellent eye for detail and has really helped me polish my projects. She is brilliant at communicating with SME's and working out what we need to do to make our e-learning as effective as possible. Her Instructional Design skills in particular are outstanding, she can really transform the driest subject in to a fun, meaningfully engaging piece of training."

Narissa Kentfield, Digital Learning Designer at SGN

  • "Claire worked on an elearning project with me recently. She found her feet quickly on a complex project in which she was writing technical content for microlearning units. On the project, we were required to work quickly and get content produced accurately at speed. Claire was quickly able to understand my design instructions for the units and produce high quality content, comprising video scripts and assessment questions. She also got to grips rapidly with the multiple platforms we were expected to use, including Slack, Airtable, Podio, Google Drive and MindTickle. I can definitely recommend Claire for this type of work and would be more than happy to work with her again.

  • "I worked with Claire on quite a tricky, technical writing project and was amazed how quickly she got up to speed with the content we were writing and the team tools and processes we were using. I always enjoyed working with her and found that she was diligent with her work and supportive of others in the team. She was a great person to work with and I hope we find ourselves on another project together soon."
